The Gold Coast SUNS are pleased to announce the appointment of Craig Cameron as General Manager of Football.

Cameron has held the position of GC SUNS General Manager Player Talent & Strategy since 2021 and steps into the elevated role following the departure of former General Manager Football Operations Wayne Campbell.

GC SUNS Chief Executive Mark Evans says Cameron’s vast experience is of immense value to the club.

“We’re excited to appoint Craig to this elevated position within our football department,” Evans said.

“Craig has a wealth of knowledge after holding senior positions across the AFL industry for more than 25 years, including the previous eight at our football club.

“He has helped to oversee the long-term development of the club’s football programs and pathways and will continue to drive our football strategy whilst also taking on the day-to-day operations.

“Craig has been instrumental in the growth of our club in recent seasons and will continue to be so as we strive for further success on-field in the years to come.”

Cameron initially joined the SUNS at the end of 2017 as General Manager – List & Strategy after holding several senior roles at GWS, Richmond, Melbourne and Fremantle.

His tenure on the Gold Coast has encompassed milestones including the club’s inaugural AFL finals campaign, its introduction into the AFLW competition, as well as the selection of more than 45 players from the StreetSmarts SUNS Academy to its senior lists.

“It’s an exciting opportunity to play a role in both the operations within our football department, whilst also continuing to help build and look to the future for our programs and pathways,” Cameron said.

“This club has clear goals to compete and win premierships, both AFL and AFLW, and I will do everything I can to help in pursuit of those objectives.”

The club will finalise its football department structure ahead of the return of the football program in early November.
