The Gold Coast SUNS are hopeful Gary Ablett will be available to play against Richmond on Saturday in Cairns.

Scans this afternoon cleared Ablett of any structural damage to the knee he injured during the first quarter of Saturday night's match against the Sydney Swans at Metricon Stadium.

Following the positive report, GC SUNS General Manager – Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft said Ablett would be given every opportunity to prove himself fit to play against Richmond on Saturday.

“We believe Gary is a good chance to play this weekend.”

Ashcroft said the GC SUNS medical and fitness team will devise a plan with Ablett that, if he can meet, would make him available for selection for the match against Richmond.

“It’s fair to say that if Gary can get through the majority of Wednesday’s training session, we’d expect him to be available for selection this week.”

Ablett was subbed off during the second quarter of Saturday night’s game against the Sydney Swans, with medical staff ruling the SUNS skipper out for the remainder of the match.

The GC SUNS will train at Metricon Stadium on Wednesday before making to the trip to Cairns on Friday.
