Gold Coast SUNS coach Guy McKenna denies he's under extra pressure after chairman John Witheriff's claim the SUNS will win a flag by 2015.

Witheriff made the bold announcement at a press conference on Friday - calling it the "20-ONE-3" plan - for 20,000 members and one premiership within three years.

Speaking to AFL.com.au, McKenna insisted he was on the same page as Witheriff – and has been from the start.

"Two years have past, so as far as I'm concerned what he's saying in the next three years is exactly what we were talking about probably at the end of 2008," McKenna said.

Does it put any pressure on me? It certainly doesn't. I'm not going to change my coaching, I'm not going to change my selection process going into games and things like that.

"We understand fully that within three years we'd like to be thinking that we're certainly knocking on the door, like we did when we sat back and thought about this in 2008."

McKenna added he thought a finals berth next year was within reach, a claim even his chairman refused to make.

"There's no rule to say that if you only won three games last year, you're not allowed to make the finals this year," McKenna said.

"Brisbane probably were within a whisker of making the finals, they went from four games to ten games."

The former West Coast captain pointed to the increasing depth and experience in the SUNS line-up as reason for his confidence.

"They're 12 months older," McKenna said.

We've added (Tom) Murphy, (Greg) Broughton, potentially added another one through the draft, a mature player and Nathan Bock comes back. Michael Rischitelli's back but on two legs instead of one, Jarryd Harbrow's playing a full season ... our ages are going up and we can compete for longer.

Captain Gary Ablett backed up his coach's belief the SUNS could make their first finals series in 2013.

"There was a lot of those games last year where we could have won, but we just either played a half or three quarters, and we've just got to get a bit more consistent in that area and I think if we can do that then we'll win more games than we lose," Ablett said.

Ablett added the club has worked hard to ensure it's got the right personnel to make a flag attainable.

"I think no doubt as a group we've got the right people around the club," Ablett said.

"I've got no doubt, and I'm confident that it can happen, but it's going to take a lot of hard work."
