The Gold Coast SUNS have today announced the inaugural guernsey numbers for the 2020 AFLW season.

Established AFLW players Leah Kaslar, Jamie Stanton and Sally Riley will don familiar digits, retaining the playing numbers 11, 17 and 8 they have worn respectively in their careers to date.

Sam Virgo will depart from her signature number 5 guernsey in favour of 22, with 2019 Rising Star nominee and Yeronga teammate Jacqui Yorston taking the number 5 which her brother wore in junior football.

Inaugural Gold Coast signings Kitara Whap-Farrar and Charlotte Hammans also have a story behind their choices, with both girls vying for the number 18 guernsey.

Hammans was born on the 18th but Whap-Farrar wanted to pay tribute to her father who wore that guernsey when he played.

To welcome her teammate to the Gold Coast from Cairns, Hammans gifted the number 18 to Whap-Farrar and took number 6 for herself, the same number she wore in her junior career.

Kate Surman has taken number 26 to honour a mentor of hers, while Jade Pregelj has elected to wear number 42 – a number she won five premierships in at her junior club Logan.

SUNS draftee Georgia Breward will wear the same number 47 she wears for Coolangatta in the QAFLW.
