Gold Coast captain Steven May reaches an important milestone against North Melbourne at Metricon Stadium this Saturday when he runs out for his 100th AFL game.

The key defender is excited about hitting the 100 game mark alongside former captain and superstar midfielder Gary Ablett, who is set to play his 300th game.

“I feel bad overshadowing Gaz’s 300th on the same weekend.” May joked to the media on Tuesday.

“It’s a privilege to play alongside Gaz in his 300th and it makes my milestone look pretty insignificant but I’m extremely proud to make it to 100 games.”

The 25-year-old will become the seventh player to reach 100 games in SUNS colours and admits he has already come a long way as a player.

“I just wanted to play one AFL game and be able to tell people that I played a single AFL game.

“It was probably after 60-70 games that I felt like I actually belonged here and now my goal is to take that next step and be a really good player in the competition.” he said.

This Saturday will be another chance for May to stamp his authority on the competition when he tackles North Melbourne’s tall timber.
