The Gold Coast SUNS have named a 26-man squad to take on Geelong in their first Marsh Community Series game this Saturday.

Recruits Brandon Ellis and Hugh Greenwood will line up for their first game in red and gold whilst original SUN Zac Smith will also make his return to the club in the ruck.

Draftee’s Matthew Rowell, Noah Anderson and Jeremy Sharp have all earnt their place in the squad and will look to gain more experience against AFL opposition as they push their case for Round 1 selection.

Gold Coast Academy product and Under 18 All Australian Connor Budarick has also been named to play in the back pocket in his first official game for the club.

Sam Collins will make his return from a hip injury that had ruled him out for the majority of the 2019 season, with Academy product Caleb Graham to partner him in the key posts down back.

Captain David Swallow will make his first appearance for the year alongside fellow experienced players Sam Day and Lachie Weller.

Meanwhile the club will take no risks with Izak Rankine after the second-year player suffered a knock to his shoulder during last week’s practice game against the Lions.

“There is no significant injury, but there is also no need to take any risks and we’ll continue to focus on his preparations for the start of the AFL Season,” General Manager – Football Operations Jon Haines told SUNS Media.

Centre bounce is 6:40pm at Metricon Stadium and will follow the GC SUNS AFLW Round 3 inaugural QCLASH game against the Brisbane Lions at 4:10pm, with gates open from 3pm.
