On the eve of the Gold Coast’s International Food Festival, Tom Nicholls has been announced as the club’s new multicultural ambassador ahead of the 2014 Season.

Demonstrating a real passion to become more involved in the community, Nicholls boasting Fijian-heritage, was keen to continue the clubs significant contribution to the multicultural space on the Gold Coast.

The 200cm ruckman welcomed the opportunity to support Karmichael Hunt as Gold Coast SUNS multicultural ambassador.

“I found out last week, and welcomed it with open arms,” he told SUNS TV.

“I’m looking forward to helping where I can, and educating the city’s multicultural people on the health benefits of playing sport such as AFL.

‘As a whole, we wouldn’t be anything without the support of the Gold Coast so I can’t wait to become more involved and give back to the community.”

GC SUNS Diversity Engagement Officer – Michael Gugliotta, told goldcoastfc.com.au the club’s multicultural program could expect a massive boost with Nicholls at the charge.

“The passion Tom has shown in his community appearances has made this an exciting announcement for the club,” Gugliotta said.

“We’re thrilled to have him on board, and supporting Karmichael Hunt as the Gold Coast SUNS Multicultural Ambassador.”

Joining members of the club’s administration team, Nicholls will take part in the city’s International Food Festival at the Gold Coast Mosque on Australia Day, welcoming people of different backgrounds to the Southport precinct.

In October, hundreds of young athletes with ethic backgrounds tested their abilities at a multicultural AFL combine at Metricon Stadium.

Nicholls is excited at the chance to introduce the game to some of the youth in attendance on Sunday.

“It’s going to be great to speak in front of the Islamic Centre, present them with a 2XU Club Guernsey, and share a few words of advice about AFL and the benefits of playing sport.”
