The Gold Coast SUNS kicked off the clubs first ever in school program, the new SHINE Schools program on the Gold Coast this week, throughout local schools on the Gold Coast.

Close to 400 students from All Saints College, St Stephens College, Benowa SS and Marymount College were beneficiaries of this new and exciting program.

The SHINE schools program is the first of its kind, in that it provides Grade 4 students the opportunity to SHINE and be the best they can be by participating in a program that focuses on :

  • Healthy Eating
  • Being Active
  • Beach Safety
  • Playing AFL

The program is unique in that it is run in a 3 way partnership involving the Gold Coast SUNS, Gold Coast City Council Lifeguards and AFL Queensland Game Development.

The most exciting part for students and teachers is that the 4 weeks program is FREE and culminates into a big carnival day at Metricon Stadium with all schools participating, attend the carnival day.

Community Programs Manager Corey Bell said “The great thing about this program is that it is actually delivered by the players directly to the students. This is something the players are very excited about, being able to encourage the next generation to be healthy and active”.

“The club are very proud to be able to provide a program with such a variety of benefits to students and schools in partnership with Gold Coast City Council Lifeguards and AFL Queensland.”

The program which is proudly supported by Mc Donald’s Gold Coast, also includes students receiving a 24 page Colour workbook that they can continue to use long after the program concludes.
