The Gold Coast SUNS have signed key position player Sam Day on a long term deal that will see his stay with the SUNS until the end of 2014.

Day, 19, selected with the GC SUNS 3rd pick at the 2010 NAB AFL Draft, from South Australian club Sturt said he wanted to sign a long term deal with the SUNS.

“I have really enjoyed my first year at the club and am really pleased to have signed with Gold Coast for the next three years.

“It is really exciting to be involved with a club from the beginning and I think we will build something very special here and I want to make sure I am a part of that,” Day said

Gold Coast SUNS General Manager – Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft said the SUNS were thrilled to sign Day for a further three seasons.

“Sam is an exceptional talent and we couldn’t be happier that he has agreed to sign with the club until the end of the 2014 season.”

Following an injury interrupted start to the season, Day made his debut against the Brisbane Lions in Round 7 He went on to play seven matches in his first season of AFL football before suffering a knee injury against Fremantle in Round 15 that ended his season.

Widely considered one of the most exciting tall forward prospects for many years. Day possesses a record-breaking leap – he beat West Coast Eagle Nic Natanui’s vertical jump standard by 3cms – and quite awesome agility to go with his natural speed and strength.
