Gold Coast SUNS superboot, Trent McKenzie has re-signed with the club, extending his contract until the end of the 2013 season.

McKenzie and his booming left boot, proved to be highlights for GC SUNS fans throughout the clubs inaugural season in the competition.

The 19-year-old Victorian said he was thrilled to be continuing his AFL career with the Gold Coast.

“There are going to be some exciting times with the SUNS over the next couple of seasons, I really enjoyed my year and look forward to even better times over the next couple of seasons.”

“We are really close down at the club, I suppose the club is in a unique situation, there is a strong bond between us and we want to achieve something special.”

McKenzie said he didn’t entertain the thought if returning to Victoria whilst renewing his contract.

“It’s not even something I thought about, I love it on the Coast and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else,” McKenzie said.

McKenzie, who played 21 matches in 2011, will represent Australia in the second test of the International Rules match to be played at Metricon Stadium, on the Gold Coast tonight.

General Manager – Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft said the GC SUNS were extremely happy to extend McKenzie’s contract until the end of the 2013 season.

“Trent is another elite young player that we have re-signed for another two seasons.”

“We believe Trent has come a long way since joining the club as a 17-year-old in 2010 and he has already become a vital part of our team.”

McKenzie joins teammates, Brandon Matera, Sam Day, Dan Gorringe, Dion Prestia and Rory Thompson who have all recently re-signed with the club.

“Following the end of the season we have re-contracted a number of players who will form the nucleus of our team going forward.“ Ashcroft said.
