The Gold Coast SUNS congratulate the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Bid Team, the Queensland Government and the Gold Coast City Council for successfully securing the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

GC SUNS CEO Travis Auld welcomed the news.

“Having had the pleasure of working with the Commonwealth Games Bid Team, and the state and local governments over the past couple of years, everyone at the Gold Coast SUNS appreciates the time and energy that has been placed into the bid, and we join the people of the Gold Coast in congratulating the team in securing the Commonwealth Games.

”Speaking from the Broadwater Parklands, where this morning’s announcement was made, Auld said it was an exciting day for the future of the Gold Coast.

“Today is an extremely exciting day for the people of the Gold Coast.”“It’s no secret that the Gold Coast has done it tough over the past few years and this announcement is a shot in the arm for the region.”

“The people of the Gold Coast and indeed Queensland will thrive hosting a world class event in our backyard and the flow on effect that this event will deliver will be unparalleled for our region.”

Auld said the GC SUNS looked forward to working with games organisers in the lead up to the event, with the GC SUNS home, Metricon Stadium, playing a significantly role as the centre piece of all track and field events.

“Our home, Metricon Stadium will be showcased during the Commonwealth Games, and we look forward to working with the organisers to ensure the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games are a huge success.”
