Will Brodie has won the 2021 SUNS VFL Player of the Year.

Brodie flew out of the blocks kicking three goals and averaging 34 disposals across the first three rounds of the VFL competition.

His dominant start to the VFL season was highlighted by a 31 possession and two goal game in a strong win over the Sydney Swans in Round 2.

Brodie had a season-best outing for disposals in round three, collecting 42 touches in a prolific display.

The rest of his season was a picture of consistency, finishing the year with an average of 31.7 disposals and six tackles per game.

Brodie’s performances on-field and leadership off-field helped him to become a role model for the club’s young developing players in the VFL squad.

The 23-year-old finished the year ranked 8th in the VFL for disposals per game, highlighting his outstanding consistency.

His excellent VFL form was rewarded with an inclusion in the SUNS AFL side in Rounds 19 and 20 as the medical substitute.

In Round 19, Brodie was activated as the medical substitute and has 20 touches to go along with four tackles against the Brisbane Lions.

“In terms of Will’s attitude and the way he went about it each week, he was really consistent and committed to being the best footballer he could be for the team which is a credit to him,” SUNS VFL Head Coach Tate Kaesler said.

“Will’s greatest strength is his explosiveness and ability to win the contest, but we were also really impressed with his ability to develop and improve his outside game and his defensive pressure.

“He was one of our most reliable players this year and responded to the challenges we threw his way so is a worthy winner of the VFL Player of the Year.”
