The Gold Coast SUNS will begin a blockbuster-filled 2023 AFL fixture with two home games against last season’s Grand Finalists in the opening three rounds.

As previously confirmed, the SUNS will host the Sydney Swans in the opening round with defending premiers Geelong to also visit Metricon Stadium in Round 3.

SUNS fans can also look forward to North Melbourne, Melbourne, Hawthorn, Collingwood and Carlton travelling north to Metricon Stadium in 2023 as well as a Round 20 home QClash against the Brisbane Lions.

“As we enter a phase of pushing to contend and win, there’s no better challenge to start our season than against last year’s Grand Finalists,” GC SUNS Chief Executive Mark Evans said.

“To be playing at home four times in the first eight rounds is fantastic for our members and supporters and a wonderful way to open 2023 as we look to complement an exciting brand of football with fun-filled, family-friendly match day experiences at Metricon Stadium.”

The AFL has today confirmed fixture details for the first 15 rounds with dates and times of the remaining rounds to be locked in at a later date.

The SUNS will host an ANZAC Round home match against North Melbourne in Round 6 as well as two blockbuster fixtures against Hawthorn and Collingwood on consecutive weekends during the winter school holidays.

The annual Round to RizeUp will take place in Round 8 when the SUNS host Melbourne with the round once again dedicated to creating awareness and supporting families affected by domestic violence.

“We want as many families as possible from not just the Gold Coast but right across the country to have the opportunity to experience a SUNS match day and what Gold Coast has to offer,” Evans continued.

“Hosting a match in ANZAC Round as well as our annual Round to RizeUp are also both important fixtures on the calendar for the club and the Gold Coast community.”

A return to the Northern Territory has also been locked in for 2023 with two matches against the Western Bulldogs and Adelaide Crows at Darwin’s TIO Stadium.
