With the 2023 AFLW fixture now locked & loaded, it’s time to start getting the calendar out and booking in where you’ll see the SUNS play this season.

With five home games at Heritage Bank Stadium and Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay, as well as a couple of enticing games on the road, there’s plenty to look forward to this season!

HOME MATCHES

Round 2 v West Coast Eagles
Saturday, September 9, 11.05am, Heritage Bank Stadium

Round 4 v Western Bulldogs
Sunday, September 24, 5.05pm, Heritage Bank Stadium

Round 7 v Brisbane Lions
Saturday, October 14, 4.05pm, Heritage Bank Stadium

Round 9 v GWS Giants
Friday, October 27, 6.45pm, Heritage Bank Stadium

Round 10 v Essendon
TBC, Great Barrier Reef Arena

For the third consecutive season, the SUNS will face the Eagles in Round 2 with Cameron Joyce’s team enjoying their encounters against the West Australian side. Joyce is unbeaten against the Eagles in two attempts with the SUNS solitary defeat against West Coast coming in Season Five by a solitary point in Perth. They were comprehensive 33-point winners last time out and will look to get their home campaign off to a perfect start again.

Remarkably, the SUNS and Bulldogs meeting in Round 4 will be just the second between the two sides with neither team to record a win. That lone meeting in Season Six finished in a draw.

The SUNS will also be eyeing first ever wins over the Brisbane Lions and GWS Giants later in the season at Heritage Bank Stadium. Gold Coast recorded a draw in its first clash against Brisbane but the Lions have had the wood since while the SUNS and Giants have met in each of the last four seasons with the result falling the Sydneysiders’ way each time.

The home & away season rounds out with a maiden clash against Season Seven expansion side Essendon in Mackay. The match will be the fourth AFLW match the SUNS have hosted in Mackay with an eye on back-to-back victories in the region having defeated St Kilda in balmy conditions last season.

AWAY MATCHES

Round 1 v Carlton
Saturday, September 2, 1.05pm, IKON Park

Round 3 v Collingwood
Sunday, September 17, 3.05pm, Victoria Park

Round 5 v Adelaide Crows
Sunday, October 1, 4.35pm, Unley Oval

Round 6 v Richmond
Sunday, October 8, 3.05pm, IKON Park

Round 8 v Port Adelaide
Saturday, October 21, 4.35pm, Alberton Oval

The SUNS will get a taste of three new venues in 2023 whilst also adding a new opponent to the list. The Round 3 clash against Collingwood will remarkably be the SUNS first meeting against the Pies in five seasons, whilst also being the maiden visit to Victoria Park.

Gold Coast has split the ledger in the last two seasons with both Carlton and Richmond and a potential second consecutive win over the Blues would be the perfect start to the 2023 campaign for Joyce and his side.

There’s been just the one meeting between the SUNS and each of the Adelaide-based sides with 2023 being just the second campaign in which Gold Coast will travel to South Australia. The Crows won the only meeting back in 2020 while the SUNS earned the advantage in its battles with Port Adelaide, seeing off the Power at Bond University last season.
