Gold Coast SUNS youngster Oskar Faulkhead has defended his 2km time trial crown on day one of pre-season.

The SUNS first-to-fourth year players kickstarted its preparations for the 2024 AFL season on the track at Griffith University on Monday morning with the VFL premiership player first past the post for a second season running.

Joining Faulkhead in the top three were James Tsitas and Sam Flanders with an incredible run from key defender Sam Collins seeing him fourth past the line.

2023 Club Champion Noah Anderson rounded out the top five finishers.

Bailey Humphrey turned his hard work building fitness in the off-season into a personal best, while Connor Budarick also compiled an impressive run after injury interruptions in prior pre-seasons.

Collins was among a number of experienced heads who joined in with the squad’s younger brigade for the day one session – the first under new Senior Coach Damien Hardwick – following the time trial.

The full squad will resume their pre-Christmas block of training from December 4.
