The Gold Coast SUNS will feature on the opening night of the 2025 NAB AFLW season following confirmation of the competition’s fixture this morning.

The SUNS will head west to take on the West Coast Eagles at Perth’s Leederville Oval on Thursday, August 14 to open its campaign.

SUNS fans will have the opportunity to see its squad, boasting a host of Gold Coast talents, in action at home for the first time the following weekend when Rhyce Shaw’s side host the Sydney Swans at People First Stadium on Saturday, August 23 (3:05pm first bounce).

The SUNS will host five matches on the Gold Coast throughout the 2025 season including further fixtures at People First Stadium against GWS in Round 4, the Adelaide Crows in Round 6, QClash against the Brisbane Lions in Round 8 and a Round 11 meeting against Collingwood at Bond University.

AFLW will once again return to Mackay in 2025 when the SUNS host the Western Bulldogs at Great Barrier Reef Arena in Round 10.

In addition to the opening round clash in Perth, the SUNS face away trips to Adelaide (Port Adelaide, Round 3) and Melbourne in Round 5 versus Carlton at Ikon Park, a Grand Final Eve clash at Casey Fields against the Demons in Round 7, a return to Frankston Oval against the Hawks in Round 9 and a season-closing date with Richmond at Ikon Park.

“It’s a great opportunity for our young and exciting squad to feature on the opening night of the 2025 season, before getting the chance to play in front of our incredible home support at People First Stadium in Round 2,” GC SUNS Head of Women’s Football Fiona Sessarago said.

“Under new Head Coach Rhyce Shaw, our squad have been putting in the hard yards throughout pre-season, and to now have our fixture confirmed gives us some clarity on the weeks and months ahead.”
