The Gold Coast SUNS have fallen to a dominant Coburg outfit at People First Stadium on Saturday morning, with the Lions recording an 88-point win in wet conditions.
Opening the scoreboard for the SUNS was debutant Caleb Lewis - who scored his first of two goals in the first quarter for Gold Coast.
Connor Budarick (19 disposals, 10 tackles) helped move the ball cleanly through the corridor, linking with Nelson Beikoff-Smart (nine disposals) before Malcolm Rosas (12 disposals, five inside 50s) delivered it straight to Lachlan Gulbin inside 50, who finished the chain with a goal.
In the second term, the SUNS kept the Lions at bay with Zac O’Brien, Jamison Shea and Alex Sexton each adding a goal to the board.
After the break, the Lions roared back, holding Gold Coast goalless until the final quarter, where Mid-Season rookie recruit Lewis, shone again kicking his second goal before Ben Jepson secured his own.
In his first time donning the red and gold, fellow Mid-Season rookie recruit Oscar Adams tallied 9 marks, making him a match leader. Ethan Read also stood out, leading the table with 12 tackles.
