SUNS co-captain Jarrod Witts has given a message to all Gold Coast SUNS members and fans, thanking them for their unwavering support in a challenging year.

Gold Coast’s regular season was ended on Saturday night with a loss to the finals-bound Giants.

Witts said GWS’ straight goal-kicking was too much for Gold Coast to overcome in the final match of the season.

“They’re a quality team and they ran over the top of us a little bit,” Witts said post-match.

“We were cracking in a fair bit in the first half around the ball and they got on top of us and really made us pay.

“They kicked very straight tonight and essentially put scoreboard pressure on and it was too much for us.”

Round 23 was Thank You Round for 2019 SUNS members, and Witts urged the club’s loyal supporters to stick with the team for its rise up the ladder in the coming years.

“We’re so appreciative of the support we get from our members and fans,” Witts said.

“As players, coaches and admin staff, it goes such a long way with our footy club.

“I just also want the members to know we’ll be back better and stronger.

“We’ve obviously had a lot of things to learn this year, there are guys who have had career best years and they’ll obviously build on that moving forward.

“The signs are good, we’ve got a good core group that are staying here for a long time so we’re really looking forward to building and working our way up the ladder next year.”

After conducting exit interviews, the players will go on leave before returning for pre-season in early November.
