Gold Coast SUNS forward Tom Lynch has suffered an injury setback after returning from the teams pre-season camp in Arizona.

Lynch was restricted during the second week of the camp after feeling pain in his right foot.

Lynch, who turned 20 last month, had scans when he returned to the country.

GC SUNS General Manager Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft confirmed the results of the scans to goldcoastfc.com.au

"The scans established that Tom had a stress fracture in his right foot."

Following consultation with our medical team and specialists, it was determined that surgery was the most appropriate course of action to address Tom’s injury.

Ashcroft said that Lynch will wear and air cast for six weeks after which he will continue his rehabilitation.

After playing 13 games and kicking multiple goals on five occasions in 2011, Lynch showed his versatility in 2012, by playing in attack, defence and pinch hitting in the ruck.

His performance against Carlton in Round 22, with 16 possessions, six marks and four goals saw him earn three Brownlow Medal votes.
