Despite the 2020 NAB AFL Women’s season being abandoned, the AFL Players’ Association have forged ahead to recognise the contribution and efforts of AFLW players this season.

Three young SUNS, Kalinda Howarth, Lauren Bella and Jacqui Yorston have been named in the 22Under22 squad for their outstanding seasons in 2020.

Howarth was the SUNS’ leading goalkicker this season with nine majors, finishing inside the top three in the league.

Bella had 130 hitouts in her first season in the red and gold, the most of any ruck in the competition.

Yorston finished the season with 48 tackles to her name, the third best in the competition, and averaged 14 disposals per game.

The 22Under22 concept was introduced through the men’s competition in 2013 to reward the young stars of our game under 22 years of age who make an impact on their club and the competition so early in their careers.

A squad of 31 players has been selected, where fans can vote for their best 22 here

The fan whose team is the best matched to the final team wins a prize, and all players selected in the final team are presented with a 22Under22 jumper.

This is the first year the AFLW competition has introduced the 22Under22 concept.
