The Gold Coast SUNS welcome today’s Queensland Government announcement that crowds of up to 2,000 will be allowed at Metricon Stadium this weekend.

CEO, Mark Evans, said the club would now urgently work towards safely hosting supporters at the SUNS’ Round 3 game v Adelaide at 1:05pm on Sunday.

“This is a great announcement for our members and for AFL in this State and we thank the Queensland Government,” Evans said.

“Obviously we wish all our members could be there cheering on their team but a crowd of up to 2,000 is a great start and we can’t wait to see SUNS people back at our games from this weekend.”

Mr Evans said determining how to allocate the limited number of tickets was challenging but that members and corporate partners would be the priority.

He said information on how to register for a ticket would be emailed to eligible members today and that there would be a limited time to apply.

“My message to SUNS members wanting to attend the game is keep your eyes on your email,” Evans said.

“We have been planning for this announcement but we need to act fast to provide a fair and easy process for our members, as well as allowing the time needed to allocate and issue tickets. We hope our members understand the urgency.

“Obviously some people will be disappointed they can’t attend this Sunday - and we share that disappointment - but we are confident crowd numbers will safely increase over the coming weeks and we will do our best to look after our valued members.”

Mr Evans said Sunday’s game would be very different to a normal SUNS match-day with strict health and safety measures in place that people must adhere to. This information will be emailed to those attending and will be heavily promoted and enforced at games.

“Whether you’re able to come along to Metricon Stadium this Sunday or cheer from home, your support means so much to us,” Evans said.
