Ablett committed to 20-ONE-3
Skipper Gary Ablett has given his first indication that he may extend his contract with the Gold Coast SUNS, telling veteran AFL writer Mike Sheahan he's "loving" the lifestyle and culture of the Gold Coast.
Featuring on Fox Footy’s Open Mike, the 232-game superstar told Sheahan his competitiveness and hunger for a third AFL premiership could likely see him extend his contract beyond 2015.
“I’m loving it at the Gold Coast at the moment and I really want to win a premiership up there,” said Ablett.
Despite admitting there were times he battled homesickness in his first year on the tourist strip, Ablett remains adamant he made the right decision to walk away from Geelong.
A humble Ablett Jr. refused to buy into the one of football’s greatest debates, with Sheahan suggesting “the most complete player in the AFL right now” may have exceeded his father’s standing in the game.
''It is flattering. I have always said, and I have been asked this question a lot of times, 'Do I think I am a better player than my dad'? To be honest with you, I don't think I am close,'' he said.
''In my opinion, my dad is the best player to ever play the game. Some of the things he could do, no one else could do.
''I would have to really finish my footy career off very well to be put up with my dad.''
