David Swallow and Jarrod Witts will captain the Gold Coast SUNS again in 2021.

With the 2021 Toyota AFL Premiership Season set to get underway on Thursday night, Witts and Swallow will again lead the club into their first game of the season on Sunday afternoon in Perth.

In a condensed structure, the pair will be joined by Vice-Captains Touk Miller and Sam Collins as part of a four-person leadership group.

General Manager of Football Jon Haines acknowledged the impact the captains had made on the club.

“David and Jarrod have both played significant roles in helping to lay the foundations for our football program in recent years and we’re looking forward to having them continue their development as leaders of the club,” Haines said.

“For Touk and Sam, the appointment is a testament to their character and recognition of the esteem they are held in by their peers”.

Haines also took the opportunity to thank Alex Sexton and Brayden Fiorini for their efforts throughout a challenging 2020 campaign.

“Alex and Brayden will always play an important role around the group, regardless of title. They both played significant roles in leading the club through the COVID impacted season of 2020 and we expect they will continue to be key influencers within the playing group in 2021”.

The SUNS will head to Perth on Friday as they prepare for the club’s Round 1 Toyota AFL Premiership fixture against the West Coast Eagles on Sunday afternoon (5:10pm AEST) at Optus Stadium.
