The SUNS missed too many opportunities in a tightly fought contest against St Kilda, going down by nine points at Metricon Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

In a close encounter typical of the two teams, the Saints wrestled back control of the game in the fourth quarter to run out victors 8.15 (63) to 7.12 (54).

The SUNS held the Saints goalless in the opening term, but were only able to kick one goal of their own courtesy of Ben King.

Neither side had any real momentum until late in the third quarter, with the SUNS booting three goals in quick succession to push the lead out to 15 points at three-quarter time.

A goal from Paddy Ryder put the Saints in front midway through the final term, while Brad Crouch quickly followed with a goal of his own.

Touk Miller, David Swallow and Hugh Greenwood battled bravely for the SUNS in the midfield, while Sam Collins and Wil Powell were both impressive in the defensive half.

The Saints may have finished with the four points, but Ben King came out on top in the battle of the brothers, finishing with three goals while Max managed one.
