The Gold Coast SUNS have completed a trade with Carlton which sees Lauren Bella and Claudia Whitfort depart the club.

The deal sees the SUNS receive a 2025 first-round selection (Pick 19) as well as a future second round selection in exchange for the duo.

Bella departs the SUNS as the club’s AFLW games record holder, having played 69 games in red, blue and gold after making her club debut in Gold Coast’s inaugural match in 2020.

Whitfort made her club debut in the opening round of the 2022 season before going on to play 43 games for the SUNS, highlighted by Club Champion honours in 2023.

GC SUNS AFLW Head Coach Rhyce Shaw thanked Lauren and Claudia for their contributions to the club.

“Having played in our very first game in 2020 and ridden all the ups and downs along the way, Lauren has had a significant impact in the development of our program over the past seven seasons,” Shaw said.

“She has been a terrific servant of our football club and I’m sure she’s inspired plenty of young girls back home in Mackay to one day follow in her footsteps.

“Claudia too has played an influential role  over the past five seasons, including several years in our leadership group and having the honour of winning a Club Champion as well.

“We would like to sincerely thank both Lauren and Claudia for all they have given to our club and wish them both the best in the next phase of their careers.”

The SUNS currently hold picks 4, 19, 20, 22 and 38 in the 2025 Telstra AFLW Draft. The AFLW Trade Period concludes on Wednesday, December 10.
