Aaron Young led the way for Gold Coast as the SUNS upset Sydney by 35 points at Tramway Oval on Saturday afternoon.

Young starred with 30 disposals and six clearances in the 13.18 (96) to 9.7 (61) victory, where the visitors led from start to finish.

The SUNS were quick out of the gates with four goals to one in the opening term to immediately put the Swans on the back foot.

Sydney responded in the second as the Swans found their groove, but they couldn’t make any inroads on the scoreboard with both sides kicking five goals each in a free-flowing quarter.

Peter Wright and Brad Scheer goalled within minutes of each other to start the third and the writing was on the wall for the finals-bound Swans.

They only managed one goal for the quarter through Zac Foot and by three-quarter time, the margin had blown out to 39 points.

Sydney won the last quarter but the damage was done as the SUNS secured their seventh win of the season.

In addition to Young, Scheer was important in the clinches with 20 disposals, 11 tackles and three clearances, whilst up forward Connor Nutting top-scored with four majors to go with his 12 disposals and six marks.

Another highlight for the SUNS was the return of Izak Rankine, who was lively with 14 disposals, nine tackles and a skilful goal in traffic from the pocket.

Eighth-placed Gold Coast concludes its 2019 campaign against the GIANTS at Metricon Stadium next week, while the Swans take on Brisbane at Tramway Oval.
