Boom Gold Coast SUNS ruckman Zac Smith admits to never having watched a full game of international rules in his life, but is itching to play for Australia against Ireland at Metricon Stadium on November 4.
Smith, who played soccer for 12 years as a junior, was on hand with teammate Jared Brennan to announce Gold Coast's home ground as the host for the second Test of the two-match series.
The first Test will be played at Melbourne's Etihad Stadium on October 28.
The 21-year-old, who is one of the favourites for this year's NAB AFL Rising Star award, says he is hopeful of being picked in the 30-man squad to be announced in September.
"I haven't watched a full game and I don't know many of the rules but I'm looking forward to it if I get the chance," he said.
"I'm definitely familiar with the rounder ball, but I've never played Gaelic football.
"It'd be amazing to run out here in front of a packed stadium, so if I get the chance I'd be very happy to."
Smith said that despite popular opinion he was not a goalkeeper in his soccer days growing up in the central Queensland town of Rockhampton.
Despite his height (205cm) lending weight to the theory he played in goals, Smith said he was a full-back.
Brennan also expressed a strong interest to play against the Irish after having put on the Aussie colours in two matches in 2008.
"It was a while ago now, but I enjoyed my time and it's a good coup for the Gold Coast to get that game and be able to celebrate it with the Gold Coast SUNS fans and a good Irish contingent," Brennan said.
"I remember I played with (GC SUNS teammate Campbell Brown) in that series as well – and he was pretty fierce as he usually is.
"It's a little bit of a different game, it took a little bit to get used to with the round ball and the rectangle (field) and the shorter game time, but it's definitely fierce, there's no doubt about that.
"It's a good reward for the GC SUNS and the GC SUNS supporters who have come out in numbers this season."
Brennan said he was hopeful the International Rules test would sell out, just as Saturday night's match against Collingwood had.
